Background of the Project
India Health Action Trust (IHAT) aims at improving public health initiatives by supporting programs nationally and globally through providing comprehensive technical assistance in program planning, management and monitoring. IHAT has set up a Technical Support Unit (TSU) for the Government of Uttar Pradesh to provide techno-managerial assistance to improve the coverage of key reproductive, maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition (RMNCHA+) interventions and services in the state from the funding support of Bill & Melinda Gate Foundation (BMGF) through University of Manitoba (UOM), Canada.

Job Summary
District Specialist Nutrition– Implement and coordinate nutrition related interventions in allotted Districts.

Key Role & Responsibilities
Key responsibilities:
·         Support the district in planning, monitoring, review and strengthening community-based events, training & capacity building of AWWs, ASHAs, Mukhya Sevikas, CDPOs and other frontline workers and facility staffs.
·         Support ICDS and NNM in establishing and strengthening review mechanisms, like District Nutrition Committee, District & Block Review Meetings, Sector Meetings etc by enhanced use of data.
·         Support the district in identification & problem solving of bottlenecks, gaps and challenges in nutrition related indicators.
·         Support DPO-ICDS in the roll out of the MIYCN-related job-aids and tools for the community, FLWs and facilities.
·         Support the DPO-ICDS in the planning and review of the MIYCN interventions in the district through planning, monitoring, regular data sharing, joint field visits and review meetings.
·         Support, mentor and handhold the Poshan Sakhis through regular data analysis, field visits, mentoring & handholding support, trainings/capacity building and review meetings.
·         Support ICDS CDPOs and Supervisors in the blocks through joint field visits and review meetings and through sharing the learnings from the TSU focus blocks.
·         Coordinate with other District Specialists of UP TSU on adapting and utilizing the review, service delivery and capacity building platforms, like VHND, AAA meetings, Cluster meetings etc to improve community behaviours on MIYCN.
·         Timely updation about activities in the district through program monitoring reports, surveys, documentation of gaps, learnings and success stories.
Skills & Competencies

·         Ethnic, cultural, gender, religious, and socioeconomic status sensitivity.
·         Good understanding of nutrition and health systems with knowledge of Uttar Pradesh context at the district and community levels.
·         Computer skills, knowledge of MS-Word (Word, Excel, and Power-point) is necessary.
·         Documentation and communication skills.
·         Experience of handling the team at District, block and sub-block level 
·         Capacity building skills.
·         Mentoring skills.
·         Project management skills.
·         Documentation and Presentation skills.
·         Planning and Coordinating.

Qualification/
Experience

·         Post-graduate degree/ diploma in Rural Development, Social Work, Social Sciences, Nutrition, Public Health or equivalent qualifications   
·         Working experience in development sector is desirable, preferably 3-5 years of working experience related to nutrition, health, behaviour change and community empowerment in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
·         Experience working with government/development agency in Community-based interventions is desirable.
·         Experience of mentoring, team building and facilitation approaches.
·         Experience of working with Nutrition/Health / Community outreach programs in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
